The German hang is a simple loaded stretch to increase shoulder strength and range of motion. Better shoulder extension will allow an athlete to move the shoulders more freely which can result in more power and distance for movements like broad jumps and dash vaults. Additionally, this exercise can serve as good pre-hab for the elbows which is necessary to progress to similar exercises such as skin-the-cats and back levers.
